MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – This year’s Grand Strand Buddy Walk, held at Grand Park at the Market Common, surpassed its goal of $20,000. The funds will go towards programs put on by the Grand Strand Down Syndrome Society.
At Saturday’s event, there was a festival during the day with several activities for the kids, music, face painting and awards. This was the fourth year the walk has been held and hundreds of people, including several from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department and the Horry County Police Department, came out to support the cause.
“We like to include our typical children with our kids with down syndrome so they can interact and learn and grow up to be adults that know about down syndrome,” said President of the Grand Strand Down Syndrome Society, Bryan Baker. “It’s good awareness for the community and we all get to have a good time and our kids get to perform and show off their talents.”
Team “Jack the Great” was the top fundraising team with over $6,000 raised.
Funds will go towards the “Buddy Talk” program as well as a long-term goal of the Grand Strand Down Syndrome Society to build a center.
