CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – The Horry County Coroner’s Office honored dozens of unclaimed, deceased individuals with a proper memorial service, all thanks to a local girl scout.

Ingram Cox came up with the idea for the service four years ago and has been working with the coroner’s office and several funeral homes to organize it since. On Saturday, dozens of people attended the funeral at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Conway. Several of Ingram’s fellow girl scouts, and other attendees read the names of each of the 72 deceased individuals aloud. Horry County Coroner Robert Edge says though they were not claimed, it is important for the community to still honor and remember each deceased person.

“The word forgotten is the important word. We don’t want people to think that we have forgot about them. And I’m sure that the Lord’s got his hands open, arms open and is welcoming them into the gates.”

Ingram’s Girl Scout troop also received a special honor from the President for their contribution to the service.
