Georgia teen sentenced to life for hammer attack

SAVANNAH, GA (WSAV) – An 18-year-old Georgia man will spend the rest of his life in prison, plus an additional 40 years, for beating a taxi driver with a hammer.

Raymond Worthem was sentenced Monday to life in prison for the brutal 2014 attack of 58-year-old cab driver Gordon Nash. In an attempt to rob the driver, Worthem hit Nash in the head repeatedly with a hammer. The prosecution says the teen struck Nash 15 times with the hammer during the robbery.

Nash was found hours after the attack and is now confined to a wheelchair and must wear a protective helmet. The beating victim took the stand to ask for the maximum sentence.
