Georgetown teen killed in crash hours before high school graduation

GEORGETOWN, S.C. – A South Carolina teenager was killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash on what would have been his graduation day.

The Georgetown County Coroner says 18-year-old Nicholas Cameron Cumbie died just before 1 p.m. in a two-vehicle crash on Big Dam Swamp Drive.

Cumbie pulled off of a private drive into traffic on Big Dam Swamp Drive and struck by an oncoming pickup truck.

The driver of the truck was transported to a local hospital.

Cumbie was a senior at Andrews High School, a graduation ceremony for his class was scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday. The school district says graduation went ahead as planned.
