CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – A man from Georgetown County was sentenced to life in prison without parole after he was convicted of another armed robbery in Georgetown, the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office announced Thursday.
The trial for Stanley D. Moulrie, 49, began Monday at the Georgetown County Judicial Center. Judge D. Craig Brown presided over the case.
Moultrie’s conviction stemmed from an armed robbery that occurred on January 20, 2015 at the Shoe Show in Georgetown. Georgetown police investigated the incident and arrested Moultrie 11 days later.
“Under South Carolina’s recidivism statute, the so-called two and three strikes law, this is Mr. Moultrie’s third conviction for most serious crimes, so the mandatory penalty is life without parole,” Assistant Solicitor Austin Thomas said.
Moultrie was previously convicted of three counts of armed robbery in the 1990’s, sentenced to 18 years, and then convicted of attempted armed robbery in 2007 and sentenced to 12 years. He was on parole for that 2007 sentence at the time he committed the Georgetown robbery.
The press release says he was being investigated for multiple crimes in Horry County,Charleston County, and Richland County including two pending charges of armed robbery at the Coastal Grande Mall.
There were two separate robberies in Charleston County in January of 2015, including one where the victim is alleged to have been sexually assaulted. The Defendant is considered a sex offender based on convictions in 2003 and 2004 for indecent exposure.
