PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WBTW) – A Georgetown man is in jail and a toddler is safe after a reported kidnapping in Pawleys Island Tuesday afternoon.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies were alerted to an alleged kidnapping after the child’s mother got into an argument with the suspect, Danielle DaQuan Vanderhorst, 25, of Georgetown, at the intersection of Waverly and Kings River roads.

The woman and Vanderhorst were in a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban when an argument led to the woman getting out of the vehicle at the intersection. The woman told deputies that Vanderhorst drove off with her child still in the vehicle before she could retrieve the toddler from the SUV.

Vanderhorst is not the child’s father nor does he have parental rights to the child, deputies report.

Deputies contacted Vanderhorst’s family in an attempt to locate him and the child. Once they finally made contact with the suspect, Vanderhorst told deputies it was his birthday and he had things to do, so he wouldn’t be turning himself into law enforcement.

Deputies eventually located Vanderhorst in Murrells Inlet, made a traffic stop and recovered the child.

Vanderhorst is awaiting formal charges at the time of this posting.
