GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) – Staff and Board members from the Georgetown County School District gathered to recognize some students this week for their achievements in the CATE program.
The mission of the Career and Technology Education is to provide leadership and services to districts and schools supporting grade-level, standards-based curricula through the integration of academic and career and technical instruction.
Some of the CATE programs in Georgetown County include Family and Consumer Science, Health Science, Power Engine Technology, Welding, Building & Construction, Culinary Arts, Health Science.
Organizers with the program say it opens more doors for students who may not go to a four-year college.
“So often many of students will not have the opportunity to go to college and earn a four-year degree for one reason or another. They can start right here at the high school level taking our CATE programs and from there go on to a two year technical college and they will be the one to get those jobs that don’t necessarily require a four year degree,” LaPariscena Singleton said.
More than 100 students completed this year’s program and two of them now head to Louisville for a national skills competition.
