GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) A man working on the bridge into Georgetown had to be taken by a helicopter to the hospital with a head injury Sunday morning.
US-17 Southbound was temporarily shut down as crews worked on the situation.
Cheif Doug Eggiman of Midway Fire Rescue says the man was working under the bridge at the time of the injury. The Chief added that it was a very technical and specialized rescue because of the location of the man.
Rescue workers had to secure the man before he was lifted from the scaffolding up onto the bridge. He was then taken by ambulance to a helicopter before being airlifted to Grand Strand Medical Center. The man was conscious while he was being transported. There is no word on his current condition.
Midway Fire Rescue responded to the situation just before 10 a.m.
