BENNETTSVILLE,SC (WBTW) – A gag order has been issued in the double murder case involving a Marlboro County mother and her 8-year-old daughter.

According to Kernard E. Redmond, Deputy Solicitor for the Fourth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the gag order was imposed by Judge Roger Henderson.

A copy of the gag order obtained by News13 notes the document was filed on May 18.

“The state has informed the court that there have been numerous, aggressive inquiries regarding this case by non-trial participants,” the gag order says. The order also says the state put the measure in place to protect the investigation and the defendant’s right to a fair trial.

The judge’s order bars people involved in the incident from discussing details of the case with the public or with media and also the release of any documents until the case is resolved. The document names the 4th circuit solicitor’s offices, all law enforcement, the defendant, family members of the victims, witnesses, and all legal representatives as involved parties.

Anyone who violates the order “is subject to the contempt powers of this court,” the gag order states.

Thirty two-year-old Jejauncey Harrington of Bennettsville is accused of murdering Ella Lowery and her child, Iyana Lowery. Harrington is being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center on charges of murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, kidnapping and armed robbery.

Harrington’s first court appearance will be on August 17 at 9 a.m. No bond date has been set.

The case remains under investigation.
