Friends of the Lumber River set for organizational meeting

LUMBERTON (UNC-Pembroke Press Release) The Friends of Lumber River State Park will hold its inaugural membership dinner and rally on Monday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the O.P. Owens Agriculture Center at 455 Caton Road. Lumberton.

Members and prospective members are welcome. The dinner and fellowship is free and membership is $10. The purpose of the meeting is to officially launch the Friends of the Lumber River State Park as a viable and vibrant resource for the community. The friends are a 501(c) 3 organization.

“The state park is on of the great assets of our area, and the Lumber River is one of America’s most unspoiled Wild and Scenic rivers,” said Everett Davis, who is organizing the group. “An active and vital Friends of the Park organization could do a world of good supporting the park and keeping the river unspoiled.”

The friends have approximately 60 members so far, and there is a great deal to get organized, Davis said.  Lumber River State Park Advisory Committee members in attendance will be eager to share and listen to ideas for events, promotions and volunteer opportunities.

Funds raised so far have been used to print and mail flyers and other promotional information to pay for dinner on March 9.

Reservations or membership information may be made by calling (910) 618-6626 or emailing Everett_Davis@ncsu.edu. Membership checks made be made payable to the Lumber River Basin Committee and mailed to Lumber River State Park, 2819 Princess Ann Road, Orrum, NC 28369.
