BASEBALLSOCASTEE- Finn Melko drove in three runs and Socastee added another win to its region title as the Braves defeated South Florence 7-4 on Friday night.
The Bruins struck first but the Braves answered and never gave back the lead. Socastee pitcher Dylan Thompson finished with five strikeouts, four walks, five hits and four runs in 5.1 innings pitched.
Socastee hosts St. James on Monday night.
MYRTLE BEACH- Myrtle Beach scored three runs in the second innings in route to a 10-2 win over North Myrtle Beach. The Seahawks found out early in the game they had already clinched the region title by virtue of a St. James loss to Lake City.
SOFTBALL
AYNOR- Aynor’s Layna Johnson went 4-for-4 with two homeruns, five RBI, and four runs as the Blue Jackets cliched the region title with a 26-0 run-rule win over Mullins.
Johnson also finished with six strikeouts and no hits in four innings of work.
Aynor’s two seniors, Shelby Cox and Hannah Seaver also performed well on Senior Night.
Cox, a Francis Marion commit, finished 3-for-4 with two runs. Seaver, a Furman commit, finished 3-4 with 2 RBI and 3 runs.
