Freedom Fest attracts thousands for July 4th celebration

DARLINGTON, S.C. (WBTW) – Fireworks lit the sky over the Darlington Raceway on the 4th of July.

Families from around the Pee Dee gathered at the track with their lawn chairs and blankets and enjoyed a night of entertainment, food and fireworks.

This is the second year the Darlington Chamber of Commerce has hosted this event and one woman visiting says the celebration makes her proud to live in America.

Kristina King is from Colombia, but has lived in the United States since 2004.

“I love this country and I am so proud to be in America. I feel free. I feel the freedom that I don’t have in my country so I’m happy here,” said King.

Last year’s Freedom Fest attracted an estimated 14,000 people according to Hannah Stanley, Executive Director of the Greater Darlington Chamber of Commerce. She says they expect the number to be much higher this year.
