The members of the Delta Kappa Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. held a 2015 scholarship beautillion at the Cumberland United Methodist Church  in Florence Sunday evening.

 The organization hosts the event each year, sponsoring young male juniors and seniors throughout the Pee Dee who are involved in a variety of educational, social and cultural experiences while having an opportunity to earn scholarships for college.

“We wanted to ensure the young men of future generations have the opportunity to build their leadership talents. It is in this transition that we continue to sponsor our beautillion and activities for young men, and those who believe in showing the support for the power, promise and potential of these young men to attend the 2015 Beautillion, says Dr. Joseph Heyward, Beautillion Chairperson.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the first Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans and was founded in 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY by seven college men who recognized the need for a strong bond of brotherhood among African-Americans in this country.

The Delta Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. was founded in 1948 in Florence,SC. Ronald Chapman is the chapter President and William Spears of Florence is the South Carolina District Director.

The orGAnization will begin its national program Project Alpha this summer and will send several young males to Savannah Ga. for a leadership development conference.
