SIOUX FALLS, SD (WBTW) – Alaska Anchorage defeated Francis Marion 79-55 in the national quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Tuesday night.

The defeat ends Francis Marion’s memorable season. The Patriots swept through the Southeast Regional as the seventh seed. Their 24 wins this year was the most in six seasons and their Elite Eight appearance was only the second ever for the program since moving to the NCAA affiliation in 1992.

Briana Burgins scored a career-high 29 points to lead the Patriots. She was 10-of-19 from the field and 9-of-10 from the foul line. But overall, the Patriots struggled to gain any offensive momentum. They managed only 30.8 percent shooting, the team’s third worst figure of the season.

The Seawolves were led by Jessica Madison. She had a team-high 15 points. All-American forward Megan Mullings added 11 points and nine rebounds. Alysha Devine also reached double figures and chipped in 12 points.
