Four people have filed to run in a special election to fill the District 106 seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives. The deadline to file with the Horry County Voters Registration and Elections Department was noon today.
Nelson Hardwick resigned from the District 106 seat in the second week of May.
The people who have filed to run for the seat are as follows:
- Russell Fry
- Sanford Cox Graves
- Tyler Servant
- Roy W. Sprinkle
All four candidates are Republicans. Fry is an attorney on the executive committee of the Horry County Republican Party. Graves is also an attorney with experience in the solicitor’s office and as a judge. Servant is an Horry County Council member and a real estate broker assistant. Sprinkle is a podiatrist.
The primary election is July 28th with a runoff on August 11th if necessary. The special election is on September 15.
Nelson’s resignation came after a sexual harassment complaint against the 63-year-old Republican from Surfside Beach. Documents show House Speaker Jay Lucas informed Hardwick that the investigation had merit.
