Marlboro Park Hospital shut its doors late last month, but it hasn’t stopped community leaders from trying to find solutions.

Sitting directly across the street from Marlboro Park Hospital in Bennettsville is what is known as the former Winn Dixie building.

These buildings never shared a connection before, but in a letter to News 13 from the Marlboro County Hospital Task Force, County Council Chairman Ron Munnerlyn says council voted unanimously last week to donate the building.

It would go to a qualified non-profit group that would use the property to operate a mini hospital or a free-standing emergency room.

Right now the property is valued at nearly $1 million.

In addition, Marlboro County General Hospital Foundation said it would help fund the project.

According to the task force, a final agreement is not in place between McLeod and medical trust properties to lease both Chesterfield General Hospital and Marlboro Park.

McLeod plans to operate chesterfield general with no definite plans for Marlboro Park Hospital.
