FLORENCE — Dr. Ruth Wittmann-Price, chair of the Department of Nursing at Francis Marion University, is one of 163 national nursing leaders who have been selected as Academy Fellows by The American Academy of Nursing.
The Academy announced its selections Wednesday. The induction ceremony for this class will take place at the Academy’s annual policy conference, “Transforming Health, Driving Policy,” on Oct. 17 in Washington, D.C.
During a 35-year career in nursing, Wittmann-Price has been a practitioner, an instructor, a manager, and researcher with numerous books and articles to her credit.
She received an associate’s degree in applied science and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Felician College in Lodi, N.J. in 1978 and 1981, respectively. She earned a master’s degree as a perinatal clinical nurse specialist from Columbia University in New York in 1983. Wittmann-Price completed her doctorate in nursing science at Widener University in Chester, Pa. in 2006, where she received the dean’s award for excellence.
Wittmann-Price was assistant professor and coordinator for the Educational Track in the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at Drexel University before coming to FMU.
Her accomplishments have placed her as one of only three nursing leaders from South Carolina to be included in this class of Academy Fellows.
The Academy is comprised of more than 2,300 nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy and research. Academy fellows include hospital and government administrators, college deans and renowned scientific researchers. Fellow selection criteria include evidence of significant contributions to nursing and health care, and sponsorship by two current Academy fellows. Applicants are reviewed by a panel comprised of elected and appointed fellows, and selection is based, in part, on the extent the nominee’s nursing career has influenced health policies and the health and wellbeing of all.This article is from a Press Release.
