FLORENCE, S.C. The Health Sciences building at Francis Marion University is now officially open. The school held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this morning. The school actually began operations last month.
Inside, there is new space for students to have their clinical rotations.
Outside the building, there is a new statue to greet visitors. The statue honors Florence family physician Dr. Roswell Nathaniel Beck Sr. Dr. Beck was a humanitarian, a military veteran, and a community leader.
The boy featured in the statue with Dr. Beck is from Florence County. Caleb Johnson is the child featured in the statue.
Today his mother Crystal Johnson said, “We are very excited for the opportunity for Caleb to be featured in the statue with Doctor Beck. Dr. Beck was an icon. We feel privileged that he will be able to come back for years and years to show his children and grandchildren that he was a part of this.”
