For most Francis Marion University students their classes just wrapped up for the summer.
However, for the campus itself its break hasn’t quite started because it has a starring role in an upcoming made-for -TV movie.
“When you come out here you get a feeling of authenticity. You get kind of this feeling of Americana that you don’t necessarily get in Los Angeles,” mentioned Director and Producer Jake Helgren.
The campus of FMU is not exactly Hollywood, but filmmakers say it’s a prime location. This is the first time the school has been a backdrop for any movie.
“My producing partner is actually from South Carolina and she’s been trying to encourage more films to be shot in her state,” explained Helgren.
The South Carolina and California based film company G That’s Entertainment Inc. Will spend two weeks at FMU shooting scenes for the made-for-TV murder mystery, Suicide Note.
It’s the company’s third in the past year in the Pee Dee.
The film will revolve around two college roommates and whether or not if one committed suicide.
G That’s Entertainment looks to shoot a few more movies in the area in the near future.
They will also be enlisting the help of FMU students here as well.
