A Port St. Lucie mom is charged with child abuse after police say she drove her car with her 13-year-old son on the hood.

Police responded to a report about a disturbance around 9 p.m. on Monday. Investigators say Bridget Olinda Garcia’s son became upset that she took his phone away and was going to leave him at home alone.

After a brief argument with her son, Garcia put her other three children in her car and was going to leave their home. As she was backing out of the driveway, Garcia’s 13-year-old son jumped on the hood of the car. Police say Garcia continued to back up 200 feet, put the car in drive, then drove another 200 feet with her son on the hood of the car.

Investigators say when Garcia stopped the car, her son fell off injuring his hip, right knee, and foot.

The boy was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. None of the other children were injured during the incident.

Garcia was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County Jail for booking.
