FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Tuesday, voters in the district two area of Florence voted to see who will represent them on city council.
The special election’s democratic primary is down to two candidates; Pat Gibson-Hye Moore and Lashonda Nesmith.
Tuesday’s run-off will decide who will likely become part of city council, after both Moore and Nesmith were unable to get a majority of the votes in the June 7th special election.
For more than 25 years Ed Robinson represented the north, east and downtown areas of Florence which has often been dubbed as overlooked and ignored, until he died in March.
“We call it the Ed Robinson district. It’s like the Ed Robinson district because he had it for so long,” Nesmith stated.
However, both Moore and Nesmith have their own vision for that area.
“[I’ve been] calling around and asking the people some of the main things they would like to see. Roads and infrastructure was number one, revitalization was number two and more youth activities were number three,” said Moore.
“We need to help these small businesses get to the next level that will create a stronger tax base for us in the lower income areas which will allow us the money and funds to get our roads, infrastructure, neighborhoods all of that,” Nesmith explained.
The winner likely wins the seat because no republican filed for the special election on July 26.
Count on News13 for the results of Tuesday’s runoff.
