FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) – Thousands of people attended a Veterans Day Ceremony Friday at the Florence Veterans Park.

The guest speaker was General Viet Luong, the first native of Vietnam to become a general in the U.S. Military.

After the ceremony, the Florence Veterans Park unveiled three new monuments: the U.S. Army, World War II, and Alone with Memories monument.

The U.S. Army monument is more than nine feet tall and etched with drawings of soldiers in wars, dating back to World War One.

Dwight Giles, SGT 1st Class U.S. Army Veteran said, “When I look at this monument, I see the work of those who served, like myself.”

“I see the work of those who are serving now. Because it all matters and it all means so much,” Giles adds.

The park added 36 names to the Pee Dee Wall of Honor. Bringing the total to 684 people.
