Florence shooting facility sees increase in business amid gun debate

FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A nearly 15-hour filibuster on the U.S. Senate floor ended early Thursday morning ended with a compromise to vote on two proposed gun control measures.

The attack in Orlando reignited the gun control debate, especially when it comes to semi-automatic or so-called assault rifles.

“We have firearms for sell, but we are not a gun store,” mentioned Thomas Geddings, Manager at Blue Line Shooting Center.

For Blue Line Shooting Center in Florence lately, things have been a bit busier courtesy of the recent gun debate.

“We see the increase of people coming in purchasing and then the increase of people asking for training as well,” Geddings said.

You know that’s unfortunate that the unfortunate event in Orlando has to increase gun sales,” he later said.

There has especially been a pick-up in the number of calls and sells on semi-automatic rifles, like the AR-15’s.  However some other local gun shops in the area say they haven’t noticed a change.

“The bad part is that it helps us out and good part is that it helps us out.  But we as law abiding citizens here we just want to be able to sell and teach people how to shoot,” explained Geddings.

As of early Thursday, lawmakers in Washington will now vote on whether to ban people on the government’s terrorist watch list from obtaining gun licenses and whether to expand background checks to gun shows and internet sales.

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy tweeted out “This is one step. The fight is far from over. But there are millions of voices calling for change. And we cannot stop pushing #Enough.”

“That’s unfortunate that the first (assault rifle) that everyone always has to go to for a crime because a handgun or a shotgun can do the same damage,” Geddings stated.

The senate was due back in session Thursday.
