FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Florence police say they arrested a man this weekend who was later charged with voluntary manslaughter.
Lt. Mike Brandt with Florence police says officers were called to 1520 W. Palmetto Street in reference to an assault Saturday around 4:15 a.m.
Over the course of the investigation, officers learned Nastedman Freeman, Jr, of Riegelwood North Carolina and the victim had an argument before Freeman hit the victim and the victim fell to the floor.
Brandt says Freeman was located nearby, arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Officials say the victim was taken to the hospital, but later died as a result of his injuries. Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken identified the victim Monday afternoon as 27-year-old Carol S. “Trey” Altman of Florence.
After the victim died, Freeman was charged with voluntary manslaughter. Freeman was being held at the Florence County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond. He was released after posting bond Saturday afternoon.
The victim’s body will be sent to the Medical University of South Carolina Tuesday morning for autopsy.
The incident is being investigated by the Florence Police Department and Florence County Coroner’s Office.
