FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A former Florence police officer was given the opportunity to resign Wednesday after officials say he misused a taser and lied about it.
According to Florence City Manager Drew Griffin, former Florence police officer Adam Raynor was offered the opportunity to resign from his position as an officer rather than be terminated, per Raynor’s request at his grievance hearing Nov. 22.
Raynor accepted the offer to resign Wednesday.
During the hearing on Nov. 22, Raynor argued to city officials he did not misuse his stun gun. Raynor says he was dispatched to Walmart on Irby Street in Florence when a man with an outstanding arrest warrant attempted to charge at him. He also mentioned he could not remember filing false information in the incident report because he suffers PTSD.
At the hearing, Raynor said he wasn’t looking to get his job back, but to resign from it. He also said he would consider working for a different police department.
He served eleven years with the City of Florence Police Department.
