Florence man twisted kitten’s neck, killing it during fight over cigarettes, police say

A Florence man killed a kitten by twisting the baby cat’s neck while fighting with a woman over cigarettes at a home on Easter Sunday, police say.

The incident happened while Anthony Williams, age 30, of the 500 block of Johns Street, was in an argument in around 8:15 pm Sunday, Florence Police Major Carlos Raines told WBTW.

A woman who owns the house where Williams lives were fighting over cigarettes when the argument escalated, Raines said.

Williams took the kitten and twisted the kitten’s neck, Raines said. The woman tried to stop Williams, Raines said, but he threw the kitten down on the ground and ran.

Police arrived minutes later and they found the kitten suffering from seizures. The baby cat died about an hour later.

Police found Williams Monday morning and arrested him, Raines said. Williams has been detained in the Florence County Detention Center at least 5 times in the past, according to the organization’s web site.

Williams was charged Monday with first degree burglary and Malicious Injury to animals, personal property, injury value $2000 or less.
