Florence man had child in car during $28,000 crack bust, sheriff says

HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) — A Florence man is facing a child endangerment charge — and 2 drug charges — after authorities say he was found with a child and $28,000 worth of crack cocaine in his car on Monday afternoon.

The incident happened between 4 and 6 pm Monday in the Hartsville area when South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers made a traffic stop, said Darlington County Sheriff J. Wayne Byrd.

The arrest was the second by deputies on Monday after a Georgia man was allegedly found with drugs and 2 handguns in his car along I-20, Byrd said.

The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit assisted in the Monday afternoon vehicle search and seized “approximately 10 ounces of crack cocaine, 7.7 grams of marijuana, and a small amount of US Currency,” Deputy Denise Windham said in a press release.

Shakeem L. Robinson, age 21, of the 1000 block of Clearwater Court in Florence was charged with trafficking crack cocaine more than 200 grams but less than 400 grams, simple possession of marijuana, driving under suspension, resisting arrest, and child endangerment, Windham said.

The street value of the crack cocaine, which appeared to be in circular pieces, is estimated to be approximately $28,000, according to Windham

Byrd did not know how old the child was, he said Monday night. Robinson will have a bond hearing Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm.
