Florence man charged in Sumter County forgery case

A Florence man has been charged in a Sumter County forgery case.

According to a press release from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Marcus Antonio Blair, of S. Oliver Drive in Florence, was charged with forgery in the case.

Warrants allege that on Tuesday, at American Auto Sales in Sumter County, Blair “reportedly falsely made, forged or counterfeited, or caused or procured to be falsely made, or willfully acted or assisted in the false making, forging or counterfeiting of a check in the amount of $8,500.”

Blair reportedly attempted to purchase a vehicle and presented the counterfeit check. The dealer called law enforcement, “who could not verify the check’s authenticity.”

Blair is being held at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
