A Florence woman who is now a former jailer at Florence County Detention Center was arrested and fired on Thursday, officials said.

Leah Harris Longmore, age 44, of the 2500 block of South Charleston Road in Florence, was charged after an “inappropriate relationship” with an inmate for about 2 months earlier this year, said Maj. Mike Nunn of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office

Longmore is no longer employed at the detention center as of Thursday after she was “terminated,” Nunn said.

“Longmore…. committed misconduct in office by knowingly and willingly entering into an inappropriate relationship with a South Carolina Department of Corrections inmate housed at the Florence County Detention Center,” Nunn said in a press release.

Longmore, who allegedly had the relationship in February and May of 2015, was charged with Misconduct / misconduct in office, malfeasance, misfeasance, or nonfeasance, Nunn said.

She was being held at the Florence County Detention Center on Thursday, but has since been released a $5000 personal recognizance bond.
