COWARD, SC (WBTW) – Florence County Sheriff’s Investigators have made an arrest in Monday’s armed robbery of a truck stop on Highway 52.
Major Mike Nunn with the sheriff’s office says deputies arrested Robert Joseph Webb, 32, of Coward, on Monday. Webb is charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
According to investigators, the Coward Truck Stop on U.S. Highway 52 was robbed by a man with a knife around 2 a.m. Monday morning. Deputies released photos of two people of interest in the armed robbery case in hopes that the public could help identify them.
Within hours, the suspect was identified and located at an area convenience store where he was taken into custody, confirms Major Nunn. City of Florence Police officers assisted in apprehending Webb.
The suspect was described as a white man with a goatee wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a black Boston White Sox hat. Investigators also say the suspect left the scene in a black PT Cruiser.
Officials originally said there was a second person of interest and released photos of that individual. Since then, Major Nunn says that person “has been identified and has voluntarily spoken to Investigators. He is not implicated in any way with the incident. His cooperation is greatly appreciated.”
Webb is being held at the Florence County Detention Center and is expected to appear Tuesday before a Florence County Magistrate for consideration of a bond.
