(FLORENCE, SC)
Some students in Florence get hands-on experience into what it takes to grow the food they eat.
Briggs Elementary School created a micro-farm on campus. Students in grades K-6 plant and care for one of the fourteen fruit or vegetable beds. The tiny farm also includes a chicken coop.
The project started with a $4,000 grant from the state agriculture
department’s S.C. Farm to School program. The City of Florence provided building materials for the micro-farm, and local organizations and businesses also made donations.
