FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A Florence County Sheriff’s Deputy was jailed after turning himself in on an outstanding warrant.
Florence police say the warrant was issued on Nov. 3 for Benjamin Mills, 40, for pointing and presenting a firearm.
Mills turned himself in on Nov. 17 and was booked into the Florence County Detention Center at 12:38 p.m. and was released about an hour later on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond, according to online booking records.
Major Michael Nunn with the FCSO released a statement in early November explaining Mills had been placed on “on administrative leave without pay following an off duty incident which occurred at the deputy’s residence.” According to Nunn, Mills is no longer employed by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
The altercation between Mills and an unidentified person took place on Oct. 29. Mills was taken to the hospital following the incident that day, according to the Florence Police Department.
It is unclear what started the argument.
