FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) -Florence School District One officials ask South Florence High students not to bring book bags to school on Monday.

Students should also expect more law enforcement around the school.

This comes after a local convenience store reported a threat against South Florence written on a bathroom wall.

Parents I spoke with off camera say the threat should not be taken lightly.

Major Mike Nunn of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office explains, “We will tailor our response to the specificity and the credibility of the threat.”

Florence County Sheriffs Major Nunn said the department is investigating.

“We look at each of these threats carefully. We investigate these threats and try to determine the credibility or believability of them. We have a pretty good track record of doing that,” said Major Nunn.

The Sheriff’s Office wants students to be safe and excited for the first day of school.

“Kids to come prepared to study, prepared to learn and everything else that they would expect on a normal 1st day of school,” said Major Nunn.
