FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A Florence pet shop owner is facing multiple charges after failing to remit taxes after withholding them from employee paychecks.

Jobie Barker, owner of Barker’s Pets in Florence County, was arrested Tuesday by South Carolina Department of Revenue agents for three counts of failing to remit taxes withheld from employee paychecks.

A press release from SCDOR says for tax years 2014 – 2016, Barker withheld a total of $11,048 in South Carolina state income taxes from employee paychecks. However, Barker failed to file South Carolina Withholding tax returns and to remit those taxes to the state.

Barker is currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center. If convicted, she faces fines up to $10,000 and/or up to five years in prison per count.
