FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton courted younger voters Saturday afternoon in Florence County.
Savannah Grove Elementary is the largest precinct in Florence County and according to the Florence County Voter Registration Office more than three thousand people go there and vote.
Young people are turning out the vote in 2016, even first time voters like eighteen year-old Justice Collins.
“It feels good, feels like I’m actually grown,” said Collins.
18 year-old Keturah Hannah is a first time voter too and she has a clear choice at this point about who she wants to be the nation’s next president.
“All throughout history we’ve had many male presidents and we’ve never had a female in power so I think it’ll be a huge step up,” Hannah said.
A step up for millennial voters eighteen to thirty three years old who make up the largest percent of voters behind baby boomers.
Stuart Hunter is twenty six years-old and he agrees with both candidates on many different issues but Bernie Sanders has his vote.
“I feel like both have equal amount of history as far as the black community and the community at large. Bernie just has a little bit more experienced in the sense than Hillary does,” explained Hunter.
Poll clerks at Savannah Grove said about 40% of Saturday’s voters were millennials and that there was a larger turnout last week for the republicans than the democrats.
