Florence County man charged in connection to heroin overdoses in multi-agency investigation

LORIS, SC (WBTW) –  Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office arrested one man after he was found with approximately 97 grams of heroin and almost $3,000.

The release from Major Michael Nunn with the Florence County Sheriff”s Office says special narcotics investigators working with the FBI and SLED took  Kenneth Andrew Generette into custody Oct. 4  in Loris, SC on drug trafficking charges.

According to investigators, the suspect, who was previously released on bond for charges of Trafficking Heroin in Florence County, was the target of an  multi-agency investigation into recent heroin overdoses in the Johnsonville area.

Nunn says at the time of his arrest, Generette was allegedly in possession of approximately 97 grams of heroin and approximately $2,800 in U.S. currency.

It is estimated that 20 heroin overdoses and 1 death are associated with heroin bearing the stamp “major league” and “poison”. Investigators say Generette is linked to those brands.

Generette was charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine and crack and is the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.

He is currently being held at the Dillon County Detention Center and will be arraigned on those charges before a Federal Magistrate.
