FLORENCE (WBTW) – A logging incident killed a Georgetown County man Wednesday night.

According to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken, it happened at a site on Old Ball Diamond Road around 7:30 p.m. That’s in the area of Old River Road, not far from the Great Pee Dee River.

Von Lutcken said 58-year-old James McCray of Andrews died at the hospital after he apparently was struck in the head.

Authorities do not have reason to suspect a crime was committed, at this time, according to von Lutcken. He said McCray’s body would undergo an autopsy at M.U.S.C. in Charleston on Friday morning.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
