After years of not much headway and calling the Florence County Complex home, the courthouse may soon find a new home right across the street.

On Thursday the county’s finance committee, along with some members from Florence County Council discussed plans for a new judicial center.

Currently, court arrangements are held at the county complex.

News13 spoke with Florence County Chairman Roger Poston over the phone and he says safety has been a concern for people that work at the complex.

He says inmates, victims, judges and even people that frequent the place use a lot of the same areas in the building including the elevator.

This in turn is making the nearly 50-year-old building unsafe at times.

Poston expects it could take around $30 million to build the new courthouse.

Florence County Council is expected to pass it later this month at their April 16th meeting.
