FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A longtime Florence City Council member who has made news for years for his strong stances on various issues in the city has died.

According to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken, Edward “Ed” Robinson passed away Wednesday in Charleston.

Robinson had several run-ins with the law over the years and often had run-ins with fellow elected officials. Robinson was elected in 1988 and often argued that council and mayor’s office overlooked or ignored his constituents of North, East and Downtown Florence.

Robinson made news as he defended those constituents with strong words and sometimes with theatrics.

An autopsy conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina revealed Robinson died of natural causes, according to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken.

Robinson was 69.
