FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A Florence city council member is talking about safety concerns at a local intersection.
Construction started on TV Road back in May of 2014.
According to the South Carolina Department of Transportation there have been 17 crashes at the Ashby intersection since then.
As it stands now, DOT officials say a new traffic pattern is expected in the next two weeks to help congestion.
Pat Gibson-Hye-Moore was involved in a car accident last week near TV Road and North Irby Street.
Moore says if you drive through the area at night there is no question if the construction zone is safe for drivers.
“I’m not sure what, but it needs to be safer for the public. I mean I could have lost my life but I didn’t thanks to God’s glory, grace, and mercy but someone else could also lose their life. We don’t want any deaths to occur because of road construction,” mentioned Moore.
Assistant District Construction Engineer Jamie Poston says he hopes the new traffic pattern that will lead to some solutions.
“It should help with the traffic in that are because right now we’ve got traffic detoured through there and that’s putting more traffic in that location than it is normal,” said Poston.
Poston says construction is going well right now for the TV Road project.
He says crews are making adjustments to the intersection in hopes that once the new traffic pattern begins — things will run even more smoothly.
