FLORENCE, SC (WBTW) – A Florence business owner has been charged with keeping $99,417 in state taxes from workers’ paychecks without giving the money to the state.
South Carolina Department of Revenue agents on Wednesday arrested Glenda Hudson Calder, 51, on eight counts of failing to pay withholding tax, according to the SCDOR.
Calder, owner of Hudson Metal Processing, withheld $99,417 in state taxes from employee paychecks over an eight-year period, but did not pay the taxes to the state as required by law, according to the SCDOR.
If convicted, Calder faces fines up to $10,000 and/or up to five years in prison per charge.
The agency said Calder failed to submit the payments between 2011 and 2018, including:
- July – December 2011
- Tax years 2012 – 2015
- July – December 2016
- Tax year 2017
- January – June 2018
Calder was being held as of Wednesday afternoon at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
