LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – According to the office of Gov. Pat McCrory, nearly 1,500 residents are stranded in Lumberton due to the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
Officials say that there have been more than 26 air rescues and the National Guard, Highway Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard, FEMA and rescue teams from neighboring states are doing what they can to help people in Robeson County.
Robeson County Schools spokesperson Tasha Oxendine says more than 1,000 people are in shelters and the rising flood waters are creating issues for shelters having enough room, food and supplies to accommodate the evacuees.
Oxendine says evacuees are in desperate need of water, diapers, wipes, cots, blankets and ice. Any groups interested in donating can contact the Robeson County Emergency Operations Center at 910.272-5867.

People checking into shelters are asked to please bring blankets, medication, pillows and a sleeping bag and any personal items you might need.
