MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Firefighters, cops and local teens came together in Myrtle Beach for some friendly competition on Saturday.
The Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Strand held its second annual Blue Lights and Red Stripes flag football game.
The city’s police and fire departments took opposite sidelines at Ashley Booth Field to show the members of the boys and girls club another side of law enforcement. The goal is to build positive relationships with area youth.
“For the police department and fire department to work with these young kids, it shows them how to do the right thing, it gives them positive roll models, positive people to look up to that will show them that you have to make the right choices, make the right decisions to be the best you can in life,” said Tyqan Ross the coach of the Blue Lights.
Lights is a football player at Coastal Carolina University and wanted to give back himself, “I feel its important to have such upstanding men around these young kids.”
The Blue Lights came out victorious but organizers say everyone came out a winner because everyone involved had a great time.
