LAKE CITY, SC (WBTW) – People in  24 of South Carolina’s 46 counties now qualify for individual assistance to help recover from Hurricane Matthew.

To make sure they get the help they need, FEMA continues to open disaster recovery center sites across the area. More than 80 people stopped by the office Wednesday in Lake City.

So far, more than 3,200 people in Florence County have applied for FEMA assistance.

” It’s a one stop shop. It’s a place where you can meet with somebody face to face. It’s a little bit easier than dealing with someone on the telephone or doing something over the computer because those people become your advocate they know what your individual situation is and they can help you through the process,” Renee Bafalis with FEMA said.

Horry and Georgetown Counties and the entire Pee Dee region all qualify for FEMA individual assistance in South Carolina. Robeson and Columbus Counties are receiving individual assistance in North Carolina.
