MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) – Motorists in Myrtle Beach will soon literally be able to feel the heat.
The Sun News reports that Police Chief Warren Gall says his department will soon be installing new sirens called “howlers.” Gall says the new low-frequency sirens and normal sirens should keep motorists safer when police cars are rushing to a call.
He says the new sirens send a vibration that drivers can literally feel in the same way one can feel the vibration from a passing car playing a thumping bass line on a stereo.
Gall says the new sirens should make drivers more aware of what’s happening around them. They are being paid for with a $30,000 Justice Department grant.
Myrtle Beach is the center of the state’s $19 billion tourism industry.
