Feather boas, tiaras, pink tutus and racing for a cause; Divas Run takes over North Strand

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Runners and spectators donned pink tutus and packed North Myrtle Beach Sunday for the 5th annual Divas Half Marathon and 5K series.

The course rounded the city up Ocean Boulevard and finished on Main Street.

Racers and their families came from everywhere for the event and not just to compete; but also to raise awareness for causes close to their hearts.

“My dad and mom just recently passed, had some cancer, and I just wanted to run for them,” said runner Colleen Volpe.

She was happy to be a part of bigger community, “this is the first time I’ve done an all women’s marathon and its cool out there, everyones just celebrating being a woman and being strong. It was a great environment, it was great,” said Volpe.

More than 4,600 runners raced this morning, everyone received a feather boa and tiara along the way.
