SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – Something new for people who wear contacts, soon they may not need to wear sunglasses.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the first contact lenses with light-adaptive technology.

The Acuvue Oasys will automatically darken in bright light.

The lenses react to the sun’s ultraviolet rays and will return to their normal tiny when you move into normal or darker lighting.

Officials say they should be available for purchase by next year.
