BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in Marlboro County that killed a father and son.
According to Corporal Sonny Collins, the crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. on SC 9 between Bennettsville and Clio near Old Peach Farm Road.
Collins said two people were struck by a vehicle and SC MAIT is assisting with the investigation.
Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown identified the men as Billy Lightsinger Jr., 60, and Adam Lightsinger, 24, both of McColl.
Brown said the son ran off the road into a ditch and later called his father to come assist with getting it out. The father arrived and helped pull the vehicle out of the ditch. As they were standing behind the vehicle, a passing car struck them near the side of the road, Brown said.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
