CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) – A 3-year-old boy has been released from the hospital after he was injured when he discovered a gun and fired the weapon near his face Tuesday morning, according to the Conway Police Department.
Lt. Selena Small with Conway Police confirms that officers were dispatched to a home on Second Avenue at about 11:36 a.m. Tuesday morning. The boy was injured after reportedly finding a gun and pulling the trigger, causing the weapon to discharge near his face, according to Lt. Small.
Lt. Small adds the toddler was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for non life threatening injuries and was discharged Tuesday evening.
The child’s father, Jeremy Varieur, 32 of Conway, was charged with unlawful conduct towards a child and is awaiting a bond hearing at the Horry County Detention Center.
“We are actively investigating this case and once we have all the information we will review and determine the outcome of case,” states Lt. Small.
