Fans travel hundreds of miles to Myrtle Beach for comic convention

Friday, fans of all sorts piled into the Myrtle Beach Convention Center for X-CON World.

Some traveled pretty far to get there.

“Seven hours at least; it’s supposed to be six hours but we made it seven at least,” said Tim Hainey.

Tim, his wife Gabrielle and their children Abi and Jackson drove all the way from Atlanta to be at the three day event.

But they had good reason.

“It’s this little guy’s [Jackson] birthday and he’s turning 12 today and we found out XCON was here on his birthday we made the trip,” said Gabrielle Hainey.

While looking for a birthday gifts for Jackson, the kids had to explain some pop culture references to their parents.

“Outside of knowing who ‘Tree Trunks’ is on Adventure Time I don’t know much else,” said Gabrielle Hainey.

“I don’t know much about cosplaying, but I enjoy it. I enjoy the Sci-Fi; like Dr. Who,” said Tim Hainey.

X-CON World organizer Robin Roberts says the event has something for any fan.

“It’s not really nerds anymore. All the hit TV shows are based off of comic books. All the great movies are based off of comic books. Now, it’s just everybody,” he said.

X-CON world goes on May 15, 16, and 17th.
